Polyimide film forming: two-step process optimization
1. Polyamic acid (PAA) synthesis
- Dissolve PMDA and diamine in N-methylpyrrolidone (NMP) at a molar ratio of 1:1, and perform polycondensation at low temperature at 15-20°C to avoid the decrease in molecular weight caused by high temperature.
- Control the reaction time to ≤2 hours, and the intrinsic viscosity reaches 0.8-1.2 dL/g to ensure the stability of the PAA solution.
2. Film forming and imidization
- Casting method: After defoaming, the PAA solution is cast onto the steel strip to form a uniform wet film, with the thickness deviation controlled at ±2.5μm (25μm standard film).
- Biaxial stretching: The wet film is stretched longitudinally and transversely (stretch ratio 1.2-1.5) to improve mechanical strength and dimensional stability.
- Thermal imidization: Heating at 300-400°C to dehydrate and close the PAA into a polyimide film. Chemical imidization methods (such as acetic anhydride-triethylamine system) can reduce energy consumption, but the equipment investment is high.

Effect of tetramethylbenzene concentration on reaction activity and production of pyromellitic dianhydride
Toluene concentration is determined by catalyst payload. When the concentration is too high, the raw materials are melted in the feed tank, mixed with hot air through the vaporizer, and then oxidized at 380-455°C. The reaction gas is cooled and solidified to obtain crude phthalic anhydride, which is refined and dried to obtain an industrial grade product for use in polyimide films.
