synthesis of isosorbide-based polycarbonates since 1985, and recent advances in
their synthesis and modification have garnered growing attention.
Recently, Researcher Wu Jing and her team at Donghua University designed and
successfully synthesized a series of novel bio-based poly(isosorbide
carbonate-co-isoidide-2,5-dimethanol carbonate).
By combining the highly rigid isosorbide (IS) Isosorbide cream and semi-rigid
isoidide-2,5-dimethanol (IIDML), they developed an optimal candidate material
(PIsIeC-39) with a high glass transition temperature (T<sub>g</sub> = 120.5°C),
high tensile strength (72.6 MPa), and high elongation at break (75.2%), making its
performance comparable to BPA-PC and some petroleum-based polymers.
When both monomers were used together, the copolymer's molecular weight increased
significantly. The resulting polymers exhibited a number-average molecular weight
(M<sub>n</sub>) ranging from 27,300 to 113,200 g/mol and an intrinsic viscosity of
54–83 mL/g, comparable to BPA-PC. Additionally, all copolymers demonstrated
transparency similar to BPA-PC, along with comparable γ-relaxation behavior and a
